How naive is Ruben Navarrette in his recent column about U.S. made guns ending up in Mexico (“Guns gone south,” March 9)? If Navarrette had bothered to investigate further, he would have noticed the guns used to fight Mexican government troops were Colt M-4 carbines with M203 grenade launchers, M-60 belt-fed machine guns and hand grenades. Mexico does not have an arms industry; they buy a lot of their weapons from the U.S. These are not something you buy at a local gun store.

Given the fact these weapons also are carried by the Mexican Army, where do you think they came from? Attorney General Eric Holder could not wait to jump into the fray and point to the Second Amendment as the boogeyman. This is not unusual given the fact that as an assistant U.S. attorney general under President Bill Clinton, Holder argued on behalf of the administration that individual citizens do not have the right to keep and bear arms.
