SWAT team members and K-9 officers ended their search for a gunman in the vacant Keystone Towers apartment building at 45th Street and Allisonville Road on Thursday without finding anyone, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Lt. Dawn Snyder said. She said it’s possible the person slipped out of the building.

During the five-hour search, 45th Street between Allisonville and Binford Boulevard was closed.

Police were called to the building shortly before 7 a.m. on a report of shots fired. When they arrived, they saw a white man wearing a hooded sweatshirt duck into the building.

Officers put on protective suits before entering because of asbestos inside.
