New store to tempt taste buds in Carmel
Looking for locally made foods? Check out this Saturday’s grand opening of The Harvest Fresh Market&Deli, 12770 Horseferry Road, near 131st Street and Towne Road in Carmel.
Owner Chuck Blackwelder said the new grocery will be "a cross between Whole Foods and a farmers market.
“One section we’re really proud of is our Indiana Artisan section,” he said, which will feature specialty foods recognized by the Indiana Artisan Project as well as other locally made products.
Harvest will also emphasize fresh-cut meats and local produce; seafood will be flown in daily.
The store will offer homemade soups and sandwiches from in-store chefs Amanda Taylor and Allison Campbell. Take-out dinners will also be available.
“We really think our dinners-to-go will be a real popular feature,” Blackwelder said.
The store will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. For more info, go to www.theharvestfreshmarket.com.
Hot off the grill
All you die-hard grillers out there know that you don’t have to give up the grill just because summer’s over.
For less intrepid cooks, local chef J.J. Boston of Chef JJ’s Back Yard, 1040 Broad Ripple Ave., offers classes at his indoor/outdoor grilling facility.
“Most people think of grilling as a summer activity only,” said Boston in a recent release. “We hope to convince people that with a Big Green Egg (type of grill), grilling is possible all year long.”
Boston offers private dining, corporate entertaining and public grilling classes in his Back Yard, which features an outdoor patio overlooking White River and an indoor space filled with grill islands and Big Green Eggs. He also offers grilling accessories and custom outdoor design.

Hungry?
If you’re looking for breakfast or lunch ideas, here are a couple of new (or newly reopened) options.
Good Morning Mama’s, the long-awaited breakfast/lunch offshoot of Mama Carolla’s Italian restaurant, 1031 E. 54th, has recently opened. For info on the brightly painted cafe, call (317) 255-3800.
And Ruth’s Keystone Cafe, 3443 E. 86th St., which closed earlier this year, has recently reopened.
Although it has a new owner, much of the menu will look familiar; you’ll still find the warm wild mushroom salad, the popular chicken-salad sandwich, the potato omelet and killer carrot cake. Call (317) 757-8006 for information.
