An Indianapolis business executive has been named the new chairman of the Indiana State Fair Commission.

Andre Lacy will lead the board that oversees the state fairgrounds.

Lacy is chairman of the board of LDI, Ltd., a privately-held Indianapolis-based company specializing in distribution where he has worked since 1961.

Lacy’s appointment, announced by the governor’s office, is effective immediately and runs through Sept. 30, 2010.

He replaces Kyle Hupfer, a former director of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources who resigned Aug. 23 as he prepares a campaign for the Republican nomination to challenge Democratic state Rep. Scott Reske of Pendleton.

Lacy previously served as chairman of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and the Indianapolis 500 Festival Association and is a former president of the Indianapolis Public Schools. He received his undergraduate degree from Denison University in Granville, Ohio.

Also today, the governor’s office named a new member to the seven-person Indiana Stadium&Convention Authority, which oversees the financing, design and construction of the expansion of the Indiana Convention Center.

The governor’s new appointee is Gene Thompson (Zionsville), Boone County councilman.
