A Westside park will receive 40 new trees Tuesday.

As part of NASCAR’s Green Flag Tree Planting Program, Indianapolis Motor Speedway employees will plant 40 trees at Gustafson Park, 3110 Moller Road, near Northwest High School.

For every green flag that was waived during this year’s Allstate 400 at the Brickyard in July, NASCAR donated 10 trees to the Indianapolis community, said Paula Freund, Indy Parks spokeswoman. Four green flags were thrown during the race, so 40 trees were donated.

A ceremony will kick off the tree plantings at 10:30 a.m. at the 30-acre park. The event also kicks off the 2010 Brickyard 400. Tickets go on sale Wednesday.
