More info...
Since 1995, Cloud Cult has been quietly crafting sprawling, cathartic albums. Building upon their individual revelations and discoveries, the members have explored concepts of love, lost love, healing, and the fine line between life and death. Now this critically acclaimed group is set to release their highly anticipated sixth album "Feel Good Ghosts (Tea-partying Through Tornadoes)" on Earthology Records.
Founder Craig Minowa wrote, recorded, and released the first Cloud Cult album "The Shade Project" in 1995 using the closet of his small Minneapolis apartment as his recording studio. Over the next 13 years, Cloud Cult released "Who Killed Puck" (2000), "They Live on the Sun" (2003), "Aurora Borealis" (2004), "Advice from the Happy Hippopotamus" (2005), and "The Meaning of 8" (2007). In addition, what started out as a solo project in '95 has grown into a musical collective consisting of cellist Sarah Young, violinist Shannon Frid, painters Connie Minowa and Scott West and bassist Shawn Neary (the newest member, formerly of the band Tapes N Tapes).
Their fifth and most recent album "The Meaning of 8", received critical accolades in various publications including Billboard, SPIN, Marie Claire and Magnet, as well as the New York Times, who describe the album as " an indie rock orchestra - guitar, cello woodpecker percussion and throbbing, buzzing electronics " Cloud Cult also headlined the second stage at the Monolith Festival (whose line-up included The Flaming Lips and Spoon), recorded a unique cover of "Mr. Tambourine Man" for the KEXP compilation Live at KEXP vol. 3 (released August 2007) and was featured on MTV News for their innovative live shows and self-made environmentally conscious label Earthology Records.
Thru Earthology Records, Cloud Cult has continued to remain independent, recording and releasing their albums on the not-for-profit environmental record label established by Minowa in 1998, despite numerous offers from major labels. As one of the pioneering "Green bands" of the modern indie-rock world, Cloud Cult has backed up their openhearted songs with green action for over a decade. All Cloud Cult products are 100% post consumer recycled or organic, and the label has served as an eco-consultant to a myriad of national acts, as well as industry giants like Universal and ASCAP.
In April of 2008, Cloud Cult will release their new album on which Minowa and company have continued the evolution of Cloud Cult's distinctive sound, refusing to adhere to any single music genre. Covering the spectrum of indie-rock to electronica to folk to classical, Feel Good Ghosts keeps the listener hanging from track to track as the lyrics belie Minowa's wide-eyed and often boyish delivery of philosophical wanderings. Cloud Cult has shown album after album their unique musical creativity, and on the new album they prove this once again, having written an record that is cohesive, forward thinking and experimentally groundbreaking, while at the same time connecting with all who listen to their music.
The band will be on the road for a two month headlining tour of the US in support "Feel Good Ghosts (Tea-partying Through Tornadoes)".
