So, it's a dreary day. It's the kind of dreary May day that makes you say, "Hey, jerkface, stop rhyming!" My normal mode of mood-uplift is unavailabe as I'm at work where I can't drink, at least not without certain repurcussions. But I can listen to music. One song that never fail to cheer me up is the second track of the last Shins album. The song is called "Australia". I think it's about some sort of desperately suicidal frustration, but, hey, it sounds happy. Outside of that, any cheesy 80s pop will usually fill me with weird joy. So, what music makes you happy in spite of yourself?

"Facing the Dodo's conundrum"...Australia is a great track.

The Format...They got some of the saddest happy songs ever made. Weezer - Pinkerton...I find happiness in the sorrow of this album. Millencolin - Pennybridge Pioneers...Their softcore punk lyrics and energy always get me going.

It is pretty much impossible to be sad while listening to Weezer.

"Respect" by Erasure seems to be doing the job quite nicely right now.

Every time I hear "Beverly Hills" I get kinda sad for Weezer....I despise that song.

Good point. That song was remarkably sluggish in both spirit and execution. I never understood why it got played so much. I guess it must have been the video with its assorted boobs.

And Erasure definitely falls into my 80s category of happy songs.

Henrietta (The Fratellis) always gets me up and moving a bit on days like this.
