A little more than a month after closing, the Music Mill is back in business as a concert venue.

New management plans to present touring acts in the Music Mill’s 750-capacity performance room and Indianapolis-based acts in the Whammy Bar nightclub, according to Dan Anderson, a former radio executive who’s serving as a consultant to the new enterprise.

The Music Mill, 3720 E. 82nd St., closed after a Feb. 27 concert headlined by singer songwriter Brett Dennen.

The business opened in 2004 at the former site of a Discovery Zone children’s play area at Clearwater Crossing. Broadbent Co. owns the building.

An 18-and-older entry policy was instituted for the larger performance room in January 2008. Anderson said the new management will adopt this policy.

A date for the Music Mill’s reopening has not been set.

Things I liked about the Music Mill:
1. Great sound
2. Great lighting. Best show I ever shot was at the Music Mill.
3. Non-smoking

Things I didn’t like:
1. Location…that’s the clincher. I can’t explain why, but it just doesn’t feel right.
2. Not very photog friendly…even when said photog is shooting for the promoter.
3. Generally boring line-up (with a few exceptions). Kind of an indoor Verizon in my opinion.

I wasn’t particularly torn up that it closed, and I’m not particularly excited that it’s re-opening. A better line-up could change my attitude though. For now, I’m perfectly happy going to house shows and smaller venues like RadioRadio. I’m also pretty excited to see what kind of acts the Earth House can manage to bring in when they finish converting the upstairs sanctuary into a venue.

Glad they are reopening. Hope they keep it non-smoking as well. It’s great coming home from a show (Playing or watching) and not smelling like smoke. We love playing that place.

This is great news, I love the Music Mill. I agree with StellarSwarm that the location may not be ideal, but they had some good stretches where many shows were packed. Also a great venue for receptions and corporate events. Looking forward to the next Bob Schneider show…

Yeah Jasonwilliams! I wouldn’t care if they opened the Mill just twice a year for the Bob Schneider show and kept it closed the rest of the year!
