Playing solid defense the entire game, the Indiana Pacers led from start to finish in their 126-104 victory over the Denver Nuggets in a preseason game played in Taiwan this morning.

“We did a very good job of pressuring the basketball, which keyed our break,” coach Jim O’Brien said by telephone. “We had 56 deflections, which is by far the most I’ve ever seen. We established a little bit of defensive disposition and that allowed us to maintain our tempo.”

The Pacers, who led by as many as 26 points, held the Nuggets to 37.8 percent shooting.

Second-year center Roy Hibbert led the defensive attack.

Hibbert had eight blocks to go with 20 points and 11 rebounds in 33 minutes off the bench.

“He was terrific,” O’Brien said. “He was terrific guarding the pick-and-roll, things that were necessary to protect the basket.”

Hibbert was one of seven players to score in double figures. Troy Murphy and Brandon Rush added 20 points each. The Pacers made 16-of-35 3-point attempts. Carmelo Anthony had 17 points for Denver.

The Pacers and Nuggets play again early Sunday morning in Beijing.
