Mother of 3 found slain in her Westside home
As police investigated the death of Kellye Schultz, friends and family gathered outside her Westside home Friday to mourn the woman they remembered as “a beautiful soul.”
Police found Schultz’s body about 5 p.m. at the home in the 200 block of North Warman Avenue. Police are calling the death a homicide but have declined to say how the 27-year-old died.
“She was beautiful inside and out,” said Rita Zwilling, whose brother was engaged to Schultz. “She didn’t know a stranger and loved talking to people.”
Schultz, a mother of three boys, age 11, 9 and 3, lived alone, but her father and stepmother lived next door, said Sgt. Paul Thompson, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokesman.
Schultz’s friends and family worried when they didn’t hear from her Friday. The last person to see Schultz before she was killed was a neighbor who helped her get a possum out of her house around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, said her stepmother, Selena Valentino.
On Friday, Valentino tried to reach her many times.
“Her fiance (William J. Qualls) had a bad feeling, thought something was wrong,” she said. "He got into her house through the back door, then ran back over and said, ’She’s dead.’ "
