The number of vendors at the Greenwood Farmers Market is up this year, as 25 producers pack the library parking lot Saturday mornings to sell their goods.

Tables and truck beds are piled high with tomatoes, corn, squash, beans and other fruits and vegetables.

Soon autumn pumpkins and gourds will be added to the mix.

The farmers market is from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays on the Greenwood Public Library parking lot, 310 S. Meridian St.

Organizer Glenn Haveman said about 25 vendors set up shop — up from just under 20 last year.

The market also is open from 2:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays, but fewer vendors are on hand at that time.

All of the vendors are local, and most hail from Johnson County, he said.

The Copeland family brings produce from its farm in southeastern Marion County, and a few vendors travel from neighboring counties. All participants must grow their own produce.

New this year are a dairy display and a salsa stand that offers free samples.

The market will continue until sometime in October. No end date has been set, because the harvest depends on the weather.
