More I-465 ramps to open on Westside
Westside motorists accustomed to dodging through the Accelerate 465 construction zone — which has affected nearly all of the adjacent interchanges — can take heart that several more of the obstacles should clear up this week.
The ramp from the southbound lanes of I-465 to Sam Jones Expressway is closed today and Thursday to complete final connections and finishing work on a new ramp.
Also, the ramp of I-465 northbound for traffic to 10th Street is to open by late this week after final connections of the new pavement are complete.
Work crews will then switch to the other side of the 10th Street interchange. So, the ramp for southbound I-465 traffic to 10th Street will be closed this week until Nov. 20.
Also this week, the ramp of Rockville Road to I-465 southbound is to reopen by Friday after final pavement connections are complete.
Accelerate 465 is the $550 million reconstruction of about 11 miles of I-465 and all of the interchanges, bridge overpasses and tunnels for trails under the interstate highway. It includes the installation of new concrete sound barrier walls to reduce the impact of highway noise on homes nearby.
The five-year project that is being completed in phases is due to wrap up in 2012.
More information and maps are available online from a state Web site at www.in.gov/indot/div/projects/ accelerate465/design/index.html.
