Millers take 3rd in own volleyball invite

NOBLESVILLE — The Noblesville volleyball team came away with a third-place finish in its own invitational Saturday.

The Millers opened the tourney with a 25-22, 25-18 loss to Class A No. 4 Wes-Del, which would go on to win the event. Noblesville rebounded with wins over Jay County (25-15, 25-12) and Frankfort (25-14, 26-24) in its pool and a 25-21, 28-26 victory over Huntington North in the third-place match.

Alyssa Hess led the Millers (12-6) with eight kills, two blocks and an ace against Wes-Del. Marissa Hine added six digs and an ace, Makena Jones recorded 23 assists and Alex Reel served an ace.

Faith Reece pounded six kills and a block, and Hess had six digs and two aces against Jay County. Jones recorded 16 assists.

Jones netted 16 assists, a block and six digs in the win over Frankfort. Hess pounded eight kills, Cora Meehan added a block and Reel served three aces.

Jones recorded 17 assists and two blocks against Huntington. Meehan and Reece each had five kills, Hine added 12 digs and Lauren Barr served five aces.

Guerin Catholic beat Union County 14-25, 25-19, 15-12 to begin the day before falling to Huntington (25-14, 25-12) and Plainfield (25-8, 25-10) in its pool and Frankfort 25-22, 25-16 in the fifth-place match.
