EAST LANSING, Mich. — Kalin Lucas scored 21 points to help No. 8 Michigan State wrap up its regular season with a 62-51 victory over No. 19 Purdue today.

The Spartans (25-5, 15-3 Big Ten) already had clinched the outright Big Ten championship, but their performance against the scrappy Boilermakers should make them a heavy favorite to win the conference tournament as well.

Michigan State scored nine straight points early in the second half to break open a tight game, and pushed the lead to as many as 12 in the second half.

JaJuan Johnson and E’Twaun Moore each scored 12 points for Purdue (22-9, 11-7). The loss drops the Boilermakers to the third seed in the upcoming Big Ten tournament behind Michigan State and Illinois.

Purdue in-state rival Indiana University will be the No. 11 seed in the tournament.
