Grade/subject/school: Kindergarten, Creekside Elementary School in Franklin.

Background/schooling: Bachelor’s degree in elementary education, Franklin College, 2006; Edinburgh High School, 2002. On schedule to graduate in December from Indiana Wesleyan University with a master’s degree in elementary education.

Why did you become a teacher: I have wanted to be a teacher since fifth grade. My fifth-grade teacher, Jayne Yount, was amazing, and she really inspired me. I hope to do the same for someone else one day.

What goals do you have for your students: My goal is for my kindergarten students to all become successful readers.

What do you encourage parents to do at home to help their children strengthen particular skills: Read, read, read!

What’s something your students might not know about you: I have been showing horses since I was 3 years old.
