Meet your teacher: Michelle Hudson
Grade/subject, school: Third grade, Sand Creek Elementary.
Number of years teaching: 11 years.
Work e-mail: mhudson @hse.k12.in.us
Background/schooling: Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Indiana University; master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, Indiana Wesleyan.
Why did you become a teacher: I come from a family of educators. Teaching students has been instilled in me from the beginning. At an early age, teaching became a passion that I needed to fulfill and has made me who I am today.
What goals do you have for your students: I expect every child to reach high levels of personal expectations. I challenge each child to his/her highest potential. Hopefully I prepare every child to be a lifelong learner that succeeds both in academics and in life.
What do you encourage parents to do at home to help their children strengthen particular skills: First of all, I believe that family time is very important and should be valued every day. I encourage parents to ask their students about their day by sending home a daily “Hudson Holler.” This daily newsletter allows parents to find out more about their child’s learning and various curricular activities. Lastly, I believe it is important to read with your child every night. This is encouraged in the classroom through a “Reading at Home” contract. Hence, the point of these activities is to promote parents being active members of their child’s education.
Name your favorite movie: “Remember the Titans.”
Name your favorite musician or band: Rascal Flatts.
What’s something your students might not know about you: I get up at 4:45 a.m. most mornings to go work out!
