Grade/subject, school: Eighth-grade English, Noblesville Middle School.

Number of years teaching: 42.

Work e-mail: joyce_dudgeon@mail.nobl.k12.in.us

Background/schooling: Bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Ball State University.

Why did you become a teacher: From the time that I was a young child, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I liked the atmosphere of a school building, and I especially liked the excitement of learning something new. I still feel that way.

What goals do you have for your students: I want my students to experience that excitement of learning something new and the satisfaction of doing the very best they can.

What do you encourage parents to do at home to help their children strengthen particular skills: Reading impacts so much that students do. Parents should encourage their children to read for enjoyment. The skills will follow.

Name your favorite movie: I love old black and white movies: mysteries, comedies, and dramas. However, my favorite is “Gone With the Wind.”

Name your favorite musician or band: I enjoy music but have no particular favorites.
