Meet the Teacher: Chad Wallace
Grade/subject at what school: Third- through fifth-grade COMPASS teacher, Allisonville Elementary, Washington Township.
Number of years teaching: 11.
Work email: cwallace @msdwt.k12.in.us
Background/schooling: Bachelor’s degree, Indiana University; master’s degree in education, Indiana University; North Central High School, 1993.
Why did you become a teacher: A close friend and former coach motivated me to do my best on and off the field. His encouragement helped me set and reach my goals. Becoming a teacher has given me the opportunity to do the same for numerous students.
What goals do you have for your students: I strive for all students to become more confident in themselves as they are challenged academically in all areas.
What do you encourage parents to do at home to help their children strengthen particular skills: First off, I tell all parents to get their children involved in extracurricular activities and help find something their child can be passionate about. Second, I tell parents to read to their child every night. Finally, I have the parents review previous material with their child so that I may teach the new curriculum or provided the help in particular areas.
Name your favorite movie: My favorite kids’ movie is “The Never Ending Story.” My favorite movie of all time is “The Shawshank Redemption.”
Name your favorite musician or band: I listen to all types of music, but my favorite band has to be Phish.
What’s something your students might not know about you: During spring break in college, I hiked around the Teton Mountains with three of my best friends.
