Meet the Band: Healing Sixes
Healing Sixes widens its circle of high-profile friends on upcoming single "Fine Time."
Blues-rock musician Joe Bonamassa contributed a guest guitar solo to the Indianapolis-based band, which once featured Jason Bonham -- son of Led Zeppelin icon John Bonham -- as its drummer.
Known for bold riffs and a warm sound reminiscent of Zeppelin and Soundgarden, Healing Sixes will release "Fine Time" Nov. 18 as an online maxi-single.
The quartet also is promoting an unplugged DVD, "Live at Harby's," that follows 2007 studio album "One Less Friend to Ignore."
Band members talked to Indy.com about the 10-year history of Healing Sixes:
On working with Joe Bonamassa: "I sang a song on one of Joe's albums," vocalist-guitarist Doug Henthorn says. "We did a remake of 'Tea for One,' an old Zeppelin tune. So we worked up this new tune, called Joe and said, 'Hey, would you mind lending your skills to the next Healing Sixes song?'."
On the "Live at Harby's" DVD: "If you have the ('One Less Friend to Ignore') record, we did all the songs a little differently," guitarist Eric Saylors says. "It's all acoustic, with some mandolin and Dobro. Jeff played upright bass, and Wade played all kinds of different stuff."
On the band's staying power: "The thing that's made this whole thing last longer than it probably should is that we have a good sense of humor," Henthorn says. "Eric keeps me laughing, but we do complement each other writing-wise and guitar-wise."
On the future of Led Zeppelin: "I talked to Jason a few weeks ago," Henthorn says. "I'm not claiming to be privy to knowledge that others don't have. I know there are wishes from Jimmy Page and that whole camp to if not go out and play, to at least jam. Whether Robert Plant would want to be involved with that is up to him."
