Record: 5-4, 1-4 Big Ten. Last time out: Lost 38-13 to Illinois

The Boilermakers head to Ann Arbor, Mich., to take on a team stumbling badly in Big Ten play. The Wolverines gave up 31 unanswered points in the second half to Illinois in losing to the Illini in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1957-58.

Michigan allowed 377 yards rushing to Illinois, which had two running backs surpass the 100-yard mark. QB Juice Williams added 97.

Michigan had a first-and-goal at the 1 against Illinois but didn’t score in four plays and then allowed Illinois to go on a 99-yard touchdown drive.

Michigan, which went 3-9 last season in coach Rich Rodriguez ‘s first year, hasn’t won a Big Ten game since its 36-33 squeaker over Indiana in its conference opener Sept. 26. The Wolverines have been outscored 73-23 their past two games.

Michigan missed a bowl game last year for the first time since 1975 and might need to win this week to get be postseason eligible this year. After Purdue, the Wolverines play at Wisconsin (6-2) and against Ohio State (7-2).
