We will be having several "Community Day" events throughout Morgan County over the next few months. The first "Community Day" will take place on May 10, 2008 from 1:00 - 5:00 pm on the square in Martinsville. The purposes of the Martinsville event are:

1: Raising community awareness about several important service organizations throughout Morgan County. These organizations include but are not limited to Healthier Morgan County, The Community Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, YMCA, and Boys & Girls Club.

2: Encourage and promote entrepreneurship and business ownership within the community. Local business owners and entrepreneurs shall be involved as part of the event.

3: Provide a day of fun for families and friends. Several fun-filled activities are being explored.

Once the details are finalized, we will be sure to post them on the Morgan County Community page of Smaller Indiana. Let us know if you want to participate. We would love to have local entrepreneurs and business owners interact with others in the community.

This is exactly why we are having this day! Please open your mind and if you are a business owner or if you have interest in being one, it would be great to have your support.

Have a wonderful day!

Meth in Southern Indiana?!? No!

Sorry Nicki but sometimes you just need to cut your losses and get out.

Be nice. Martinsville has the same pros and cons as every other town in Indiana. And it definitely doesn't have the issues that Indianapolis faces. Smaller towns are just different.

Nickilee78: You have your work cut out for you. I know Martinsville today isn't the Martinsville of 20 or 30 years ago, but you know how image sticks. I have experienced some unpleasantness in Martinsville, but I also had positive experiences. The city's reputation wasn't established in a day, and it will take many, many years to overcome it. Good luck.

Kato,

I definitely understand and respect your statement. I know exactly what you are talking about. I know that the changes can't occur over night, but I feel that bringing the community together to push a change is what we need to do to begin the steps of overcoming the image.

I have lived in Morgan County for the last 20 years, and I am willing to do everything that is in my ability to make this community a positive and successful one.

Do you live in Morgan County?
