Mark Doty, poet and memoirist
Poet Mark Doty will read at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center, University of Indianapolis, 1400 E. Hanna Ave. The following from an U of I news release:
Award-winning author and poet Mark Doty, the only American to win Great Britain's T.S. Eliot Prize, will read from his works, including Dog Years, a recent memoir on the abundant pleasure and inevitable heartbreak of sharing life with human and canine companions. Reviewer Amy Hempel notes, "Mark Doty moves lyrically from the weight of a dog's head in one's hand to the enduring questions of religion, the soul, and connection . . . evocative, compassionate, a love story both intimate and grand."
Q&A and book-signing will follow.
Doty will also lead a creative writing class from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. with University of Indianapolis students; a limited number of community members may attend on a first-come, first-served basis. Admission to both events is free, but workshop registration is required. Classroom resources are available.
Presented by the University of Indianapolis Kellogg Writers Series, Partners in Housing Development Corporation, Damien Center, and The Writers' Center of Indiana.
