Indianapolis-based rock band Margot & the Nuclear So and So's released two albums on major label Epic Records this week.

In a rare music-industry compromise, one of the albums features the band's preferred batch of songs and the other album features the favorites of Epic executives.

The titles are "Animal!" and ".'Not Animal'." -- not the same, although not entirely different. Each album features seven new songs, as well as five new songs that appear on both, for a total of 19 new songs.

"It's a little hard to describe," an Epic publicist recently said.

The band-endorsed "Animal!" appears to be an end-of-days soap opera. It's being sold on vinyl (a two-record set), but not on CD. While you won't find "Animal!" at the iTunes Store, a download coupon is included with the records.

"Not Animal" is a more pop-centric collection likely to appeal to fans of "The Dust of Retreat," the band's 2005 debut album. "Not Animal" is being sold on CD, vinyl and at the iTunes Store.

Margot & the Nuclear So and So's will perform Oct. 17 at the Murat Arabian Room, 502 N. New Jersey St. For more information, call (317) 348-0006 or visit www.brownpapertickets.com.
