NOBLESVILLE -- The Noblesville Marching Millers are taking their show to the Big Apple.

Band director Stacey White is leading his students to New York, where they will perform Oct. 27-31 at the Lincoln Center and a pier overlooking the Statue of Liberty.

Students also will use the time to tour the city, catch a Broadway play and hit the Today Show.

White expects about 100 students will board buses for the road trip next year. He sees it as a chance for what's traditionally been a small-town band to experience playing in front of a different crowd.

Foregoing competitions such as the high-profile Indiana State School Music Association competition, the Noblesville Marching Millers have played at the state fair every August since the 1980s, and they march at parades in Noblesville and Tipton.

White, in his third year as director, wants to keep that small-town feel, but he also wants to heighten the band's exposure and competitive opportunities with other Central Indiana units.
