Runners will take over most of the north half of Indianapolis on Saturday, and motorists are going to have to give the runners the right of way for several hours until the race is run.

The Indianapolis Monumental Marathon will be Saturday morning through early afternoon. The marathon will follow a course that will use city streets that will be blocked for most of the day. The course will extend north and south from Downtown to Broad Ripple and back. From east to west, the circuit goes from 38th Street at the Indiana State Fairgrounds to White River Parkway, East Drive and Burdsal Parkway.

The race begins at Washington Street at the Indiana Government Center at 7:55 a.m. Saturday with the start of the wheelchair race, followed by more than 3,000 runners and walkers at 8 a.m. As the course heads north through the Old Northside, the Near Northside and past the State Fairgrounds, it should reach the northernmost point and the halfway point at 66th Street and College Avenue just before 9 a.m. Saturday.

The course will then extend south on Meridian Street, head through Butler University and the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and then follow White River south to Burdsal Parkway before moving east to Fall Creek and south on Meridian Street.

The first finishers should arrive at the Indiana Government Center finish line just before 10 a.m. Saturday. People planning to drive anywhere east and west in Indianapolis between Downtown and White River on Saturday morning and afternoon should expect to find traffic blocked across the center of the city.
