Kentland A Wheatfield woman died after her throat was cut with a shovel, and her remains were left in a shallow grave on an abandoned Northwest Indiana farm, a prosecutor said.

Aaron Flynn, 26, Sumava Resorts, was being held without bond in the Newton County Jail in Kentland on Saturday.

He was charged Friday with the murder of Rosalba Silvana Silvia Ricchio, 54, his sometimes landlord, who had been reported missing March 11.

What we believe happened is that they pushed her to the ground and held a shovel to her throat. Someone then stepped on the shovel, Newton County Prosecutor Ed Barce said.

It was a horrible death.

Authorities said Flynn led officers to her grave March 15. Two other men — Chris Henderson, 30, and Matthew Henderson, 23 — were jailed on charges of assisting a criminal. They are accused of helping Flynn hide Ricchio’s body.

All three have pleaded not guilty.

Flynn also faces charges related to Ricchio’s disappearance in nearby Jasper County, where she lived and where Flynn was found behind the wheel of one of Ricchio’s cars, driving on a suspended license.

Police say he also used her debit card to withdraw $300 after she was reported missing.

The charges related to Ricchio’s death were filed in Newton County because investigators believe she was killed on the farm where her remains were found.

Investigators still are trying to determine when she died, Barce said.
