Carnegie’s offers tricks and treats

A group of three magicians hopes to bring a new tradition to Greenfield — Magic Theater on Saturday nights at Carnegie’s restaurant, 100 W. North St.

“It makes for a great evening,” said Allan Head, one of the magicians. “You get a nice dinner and entertainment in the same location. It’s great for a date.”

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Saturdays.

“We prefer people arrive between 5:30 and 6,” Head said. “That’s when we stroll around and do close-up magic right at their tables. People enjoy that because the magic happens just inches from their faces. Often we have them holding things, so it happens right in their hands.”

The other magicians are James Kesler and Eric Spoelstra. Besides offering their own performances, the three co-owners of Magic Theater plan to host touring performers on a regular basis.

“We’ll keep it mixed up with a lot of variety,” Head said.

Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m., followed by dessert. The stage show runs from about 8 to 9:30 p.m. Cost for food and entertainment is $47.99 per person.

Greenfield resident Kim Estridge, 42, attended Saturday’s show with her husband, Tim.

“The entertainment was really good,” Kim Estridge said. “I was expecting a magician, but at first it was more like a comedian, and then the magic part came along, too. I’m just glad to see Greenfield offering this kind of good, clean fun.”

Max Wilson, 64, New Castle, brought his wife, Julie, to Saturday’s show.

“It was entertaining and funny,” Max Wilson said. “It’s just a good way for us to get out and go to a dinner theater without having to drive any farther. We’ll be coming back.”
