Local umpire dies at 59

Lenny Brickens , who recruited and scheduled umpires for Central Indiana baseball games through his Indianapolis Umpires Association since 1973, and who umpired at the Pan Am Games and other international events, died Friday. He was 59.

Brickens umpired at all levels of baseball, including the NAIA World Series, NCAA Division I Tournament and Division II and III World Series. He also was the umpire supervisor for the Missouri Valley Baseball Conference since 2006.

Funeral services are at 9:30 a.m. today at Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary, followed by a 10 a.m. mass at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
