LN junior breaks 30-year-old school swimming record

Lawrence North High School’s Lauren Wine broke a 30-year-old school swimming record in the 200-yard freestyle to highlight a fourth-place finish for the girls team in the Hall of Fame Classic at Brownsburg last weekend.The junior’s time of 1:58.71 surpassed Jane Armington’s mark of 1:59.00, set in 1978. In addition, Julie Ogden won the 50-yard freestyle and 50-yard butterfly, setting the meet record with a time of 26.20 seconds.The 400 freestyle relay team of Ogden, Wine, Christina Noens and Katharine Rinker broke the school record with a time of 3:41.35, surpassing the time of 3:42.49 set in 2005. The boys team placed eighth in the event.The No. 8 wrestling team improved to 7-0 during the weekend by winning a tournament at Franklin. Among the most impressive victories was Brandon Nelson at 112 pounds over No. 4 Josh Kieffer of Roncalli, and Cashe’ Quiroga over No. 2 DeMarcus Spencer of Pike in 130 pounds.Lawrence North travels to Carmel on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. for a Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference meet.
