Lions Club provides sweet ride
The second Zionsville Lions Club Fall Festival’s VIP Carnival almost doubled in size this year, according to event Chairwoman Leigh Ann Akard.
Akard said there were 490 guests at the VIP Carnival Friday night. The event was designed for those with special needs and their families. Akard said visitors came from neighboring states.
Those with special needs and a family member or friend had unlimited access to the rides for two hours.
A dry, sunny weekend helped the Fall Festival draw big crowds as well.
“The weather was phenomenal,” said Akard, who also handles public relations for the club. “There were incredibly large crowds. Our Lion Palooza (music and comedy show for teenagers) was packed. I would guesstimate between the three days, we had more than 25,000 people.”
Akard said Saturday had the biggest crowds.
“There was a great turnout for the Marlins concert and fireworks were awesome,” Akard said of Saturday evening events.
Despite the Indianapolis Colts playing their home opener Sunday, Akard said the attendance was steady all afternoon.
