Lawmakers will consider Sunday booze sales
Supporters and foes of repealing Indiana’s ban on Sunday take-out alcohol sales plan to make their case before a group of lawmakers.
They plan to testify this afternoon before the Interim Study Committee on Alcoholic Beverages.
Indiana law currently forbids liquor stores, grocery stores, convenience stores and drug stores from selling liquor, wine and beer on Sundays.
A coalition of grocery stores, convenience stores and drug stores says Sunday alcohol sales should be allowed, in part because Sunday is the second busiest shopping day of the week. A group representing liquor stores opposes the move, saying there is no need for an extra day of alcohol sales.
It’s possible the committee will make a recommendation to be considered during the legislative session that begins in January.
