The American Legion Mall took on a party atmosphere Saturday as thousands of people took in the 29th annual Fiesta Indianapolis, a celebration of Latino culture.

Zionsville’s Matthew and Dora Smith, both 37, brought their two children.

“I came to see all the different cultures represented and to meet up with new and old friends,” Matthew said. Dora, a native of Nicaragua, said she enjoys the event every year.

“The music, food and dance are all great,” she said. “I love it.”

Organizers expected about 20,000 people at Fiesta Indianapolis, said Miriam Acevedo, executive director of La Plaza, the event’s sponsoring organization.

Military Park was the scene of the 14th annual Irish Fest, which started Friday and runs through today. Attractions include rugby, hurling, sheep-herding exhibitions and an Irish toast contest.

Tickets are $13 for adults and $10 for students ages 14 to 18 with student ID.
