If you haven't seen the original scroll manuscript of Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" make plans to visit the Indianapolis Museum of Art soon. The fragile document of "The Bible of the Beat Generation" and its accompanying show of the photos of Robert Frank will close in less than month. Scrollmaster Jim Canary recently rolled up the first part of the scroll earlier this month so that those who are so inclined could read the entire book (except for the last part of the manuscript which was eaten by a hungry dog). An interactive feature of the show is the popular manual typewriter which is well fed with a smaller scroll of blank paper for folks to pound out their own inspired verse or prose. Every time I've visited the show, kids are fascinated by the typewriter. "Cool, its wireless!!" I heard one kid exclaim to his mom.
