No one should be surprised that longtime Brazilian rivals Tony Kanaan and Helio Castroneves have differing opinions of what led to their contact in last weekend’s IndyCar Series race at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif.

After the race, Kanaan said he took evasive action to avoid hitting Castroneves, whose car got knocked in the air.

“He didn’t give me enough room,” Kanaan said. “I put two wheels in the grass.”

Before seeing the television replay, Castroneves said he thought he did not give Kanaan enough room, but he changed his opinion in a Twitter posting today.

“But now watching the video, I have to say…my friend Tony, it is not the first time your view is different than mine!” he wrote. “The good news is, life goes on and we are both safe.”

The contact likely led to Castroneves having a right front suspension failure later in the race. He finished 18th. Kanaan finished eighth.
