Just got back from . . . Marrakech, Morocco
I wanted to go there because: Morocco is known for great gardens, which I’ve heard about for years.
How I got there: As part of a private tour.
Where I stayed: Sofitel, with a great view of cell towers disguised as palm trees.
Most interesting experience: Majorelle Gardens, a beautiful oasis in the middle of a frenetic city, rejuvenated by the late Yves Saint Laurent. It was full of bright colors, garden paths and exotic plants.
Best food I ate: Dinner at a home converted to a restaurant called Yacout, in the old quarter at the Medina.
Favorite memory: The contrast — the city bustle, transportation of a million kinds (camels, donkeys, scooters, cars) and then the peace and quiet of the gardens and palaces.
Must-have souvenir: Handmade slippers or shoes from the Souk (market) and bargaining to get them.
