Jeremiah “Wood” Adriano is “a little nervous” about his fight on Dec. 13, but only because he hasn’t stepped into the cage for a while. The union steelworker from Lafayette, Ind. hasn’t competed in 2008 because of a broken ankle and torn bicep and surgeries to repair both injuries.

The former University of Indianapolis and Indiana Mustangs football player began boxing to stay active and “it bled over into MMA.” The heavyweight began competing almost monthly in 2006, racking up an amateur record of 11-2 before turning pro. Adriano is 3-2 since, with one loss at the hands of UFL co-main event Chris Price.

“Ultimately I’d like to get a rematch,” Adriano says, and a win over Pat Harmon on Saturday would put him one step closer to that goal.

United Fight League, Saturday, Dec. 13, Murat Center, 502 N New Jersey St., 8 p.m. Tickets available at Ticketmaster.com or the Murat box office.
