it's not easy being clean
I’m not a domestic diva, but I’d like to green up my cleaning supplies … any recommendations?

go for stuff without fragrances… straight bleach is good, IIRC (i believe it breaks down into water and something else)

Great- thanks! Bleach I can do. What about laundry soaps?

Again, if you can find it w/o fragrance, that’s supposedly “better for the environment”… I don’t remember much more (it was a quick article i read about 8 months ago).

Try vinegar instead of glass cleaner.
I’ve tried the vinegar thing, and my mirrors were kinda streaky. Is there a certain kind to use?

I read that the streaks are caused by the residue left by the previous cleaning product. Adding a little liquid dish soap will remove that. I’d guess that after you do that once and get it off, you won’t have a problem with just a vinegar-and-water mix the next time around.
I’ve also heard adding cornstarch helps repel dirt. Anyone know if that works?

Someone just told me the same thing, and that a little dish soap with water in a spray bottle will work better than most spray glass cleaners. It’s supposed to keep bathroom mirrors from fogging up, too. I’d be curious to hear about adding cornstarch. I have heard that if you’re a fan of the soft-scrub-type cleansers that you can make your own with liquid dish soap and baking soda. Maybe cornstarch works similarly.
