Israel's heavy-handedness harms peace process

Israel's overwhelming and disproportionate firepower has killed and injured thousands of Palestinians in Gaza, with a significant number of these casualties being civilians. I do not understand Israel's position of massacring the Hamas leaders and officials. It has not stopped the rocket firings aimed at towns bordering Gaza. Even if Israel takes out all Hamas leaders, would it create the environment for peace? Or would it create new breeds of Hamas leaders? Violence is certainly not helpful in achieving peace.

Israel has blockaded Gaza since Hamas won the election in Gaza. This has caused soaring unemployment and frustration among the people living in Gaza. These blockades have not helped in creating an environment for peace. Israel's heavy-handed approach in dealing with Palestinians will not bring peace in the Middle East. There can be lasting peace only with a political solution that offers equitable justice. The sooner Israel's leaders and people understand this, the better.
