Does anyone else use the bus system on a frequent/semi-frequent basis? It's frustrating to say the least.

Today on the bus wasn't too bad (I ended up paying in all dimes however cause I forgot to get change at work). I was going to take a bus one earlier than I needed so I could pick up some food before my shift. But as I was finishing putting my coat on I happened to look out the window, and that bus rode by 4 minutes early. And of course the bus I ended up taking was a few minutes late.

And the day it was raining it was about 5 minutes late. So by the time the bus got here my pants were soaked.

And I wouldn't complain so much about it being early, but there's a time stop (where they have to park it until their designated time) two stops before the one near my apartment. And being late, well, I guess there could be a reason. But really, when you think about it, being 5 or so minutes late is a pretty long time.

And not to complain of just of time, some of those drivers are crazy. Laying on their horn frequently, switching lanes like a maniac, driving super slow then flooring it. Not to mention right before my stop the bus driver got a phone call, answered it, and forgot to let me off at my stop.

I mean, there are a lot of bad drivers here. But these people are being paid to drive with a ton of people riding with them.

I don't know. I realize that I'm taking a bus and that I'm in Indy, I guess I just had to get that out.

The bus system doesn't make it out to the suburbs where I live. I wish there were buses going from all the suburbs to downtown and from the suburbs to places like Fishers, Noblesville, Carmel, Westfield, Greenwood, etc. I'd use public transportation to get to work if I could...I have an hour drive every morning from the west side of Indy to Hamilton County. I'd much rather sit on the bus and nap or play video games than drive myself and spend a fortune on gas.

Yeah, I think they keep the bus system out of the burbs because they want to keep the poor out of certain areas (ex: Meridian street gets really nice north of 38th, yes, it was historically so, however, kept this way cause no bus goes up it--just a theory--I guess I'm suspicous of everything). Most americans want to own cars cause they can and then keep control of their lives that way. Although with gas prices as they are, maybe more people will turn to the buses? shrug.

Gas prices in America are artificially low because tax dollars pay for half of every gallon of gas in this country. If we ever stop subsidizing gas with tax dollars then inflation will skyrocket even more than it already has. Have you noticed an increase in the price you're paying for groceries and, well, everything lately? Besides the increase caused by inflation and a bad economy, higher gas prices also mean it costs more to transport everything to stores, which means prices go up.

Personally, I think the only way we'll get off our dependence on foreign oil is if gas gets up in the $10 a gallon range and people start using public transportation and alternative fuels.

I'm all for it. I think right now the government is doing more harm with their tax cuts for the rich and for companies that take their business over seas, and for spending so much on a war. They're doing so much damage right now. "Protecting" us from lower gas prices def. isn't going to help. And my groceries are always more expensive since I shop almost all organic. You pick what you want to spend your money on, ya know? I wish that was true for where my tax dollars were going.
