Indy's Best Barista
Your eyes are droopy, it's getting cold, and by dinnertime the sky is about as black as the coffee you need. Indy.com is here to help.
In honor of our annual coffee issue, we randomly rounded up five local baristas to find out who makes the best coffee to keep you buzzing through the winter.
Hubbard and Cravens Coffee & Tea on Pennsylvania Street hosted our triathlon. We know you want it fast and good, so first, we asked each barista babe to make his or her signature drink; our judges scored each bev on taste and presentation. In our speed test, the baristas raced against the clock to make a double 12-ounce cappuccino. And for the third leg of our competition, we asked them to write down as many coffee terms as possible in 60 seconds.
It was a hot race and close call, but we crowned a winner -- Andy Gilman, of B-Java. Learn more about him and the other contestants below.

I agree with B Java rockin’ the #1 spot. They’ve got some seriously good coffee & munchies. I still have yet to try the baked oatmeal, but I heard it’s the truth.
I would have liked to have seen Hubbard & Cravens up a bit higher though. I would have to say #2 on my list. I am not a judge though. Just a drinker. ; )
Thanks for the post! Good info.
I think Indianapolis should have an organized best barista event every year. I would love to judge and or attend/sample such an event. Perhaps even awards could be given and displayed at coffee shops. It would be helpful for local customers to see what the best coffee shops are based on its baristas’ (or is it baristi) abilities (or is it magic). Congrats to all that participated and congrats Andy.
