SANTA CLAUS, Ind. — The Southern Indiana town of Santa Claus will be getting serious about celebrating Christmas this year.

Organizers say a major addition will be a 1.2-mile light display at Lake Rudolph Campground&RV Resort. It is expected to open Nov. 20 featuring 20- to 30-foot-tall scenes that tell the story of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

The Evansville Courier&Press reports plans include a Nov. 20 tree lighting ceremony, a pre-Christmas dinner at Santa’s Lodge, Christmas karaoke every Friday and Saturday and an early December parade. Contests are planned in Christmas tree decorating, fruitcake eating and gingerbread house building.

Lake Rudolph president Philip Koch says organizers want families to have memorable experiences while raising money for local charities.
