IMPD fatally shoots charging pit bull
Police fatally shot a pit bull in a growling pack that trapped a 69-year-old man in his pickup.
Roosevelt Tramill, 69, told police that four pit bulls charged his truck and prevented him from getting out when he pulled up to his daughter’s driveway on the 3900 block of North Kitley Avenue at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
Tramill, Indianapolis, said the dogs “surrounded his vehicle and growled and bared their teeth,” according to a report from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. He said they “jumped up and down on the doors which prevented him from leaving,” according to the report.
By the time IMPD Officer Jonathan Lawlis arrived, the dogs were back in a neighbor’s yard. When Lawlis walked into the yard, the dogs were “barking, snarling and acting very aggressively” toward him, Lawlis said in the report.
Lawlis said the most aggressive dog “charged at me with his teeth bared and the rest of the dogs followed.” Lawlis shot the dog in the chest with a 12-gauge Remington shotgun, killing it, and the other dogs retreated.
The dog’s owner, Rico Terry, 35, took possession of the dog’s carcass so he could dispose of it.
