Hummel on All-Big Ten preseason team
Purdue junior forward Robbie Hummel was disappointed to learn media members at Thursday’s Big Ten basketball media day in Rosemont, Ill., selected him to the preseason All-Big Ten first team but not Boilermakers center JaJuan Johnson .
Michigan State, the national runner-up last season, was picked in a preseason poll to repeat as Big Ten champions. The 24-member media panel chose Purdue — which made it to the NCAA Tournament’s round of 16 last season — to finish second and Ohio State to take third. Only the top three teams were announced.
Michigan State’s Kalin Lucas , last year’s Big Ten Player of the Year, was chosen as preseason Player of the Tear.
Lucas was joined on the first team by Hummel, Michigan’s Manny Harris , Ohio State’s Evan Turner , and Penn State’s Talor Battle — all juniors.
Purdue was selected to finish third among women’s teams by media members. The conference’s coaches predicted the Boilers would finish fourth.
Both groups picked Ohio State to win the conference and Indiana to finish ninth.
