Humane Society has namesake for animal foster-care program
The foster-care program at the Humane Society of Indianapolis will get a namesake Sunday.
The society will name the program after Eleanor “Nonie” Krauss, who fostered animals with her husband John.
Krauss died in 2007 at age 57, after being struck by a car while walking her dog near her Far-Northside home. Cubby the dog survived the accident.
The program will now be called the Nonie Krauss Foster Care Program.
John Krauss will speak at the event and unveil a portrait of Nonie and her dog Cubby.
The portrait will be hung in the Humane Society’s adoption lobby, said Tristan Schmid, Humane Society spokeswoman.
The foster-care program helps shelter animals who need extra time before adoption, including dogs and cats with minor behavioral issues; animals in need of medical treatment; puppies and kittens too young for adoption; and moms with puppies or kittens, Schmid said.
Currently 100 animals are in foster homes.
