How Sweet It Is, Kinda?

I have already made a few comments today about how happy I am that the Giants actually beat the Patriots last night. The rivalry between the Colts and the Patriots is an odd one, but good. The biggest rivalries in sports are usually between teams in the same conference/division, such as the Red Sox/Yankees, Ohio State/Michigan and so on(I'm not here for a teaching lesson) and I don't think that the Colts/Patriots is even close to those. Over the years of the AFC South we have had a decent rivalry with the Titans and the Jaguars rivalry is starting to heat up, but as a Colts fan, right now, no matter how much we try to deny it, there is nothing better than seeing the Patriots get beat. NOTHING! If you asked a Patriot's fan the same question over the past 5-7 years, they would say the same thing about us, in a heart beat. If you have ever read the Topix threads on Indystar.com, more people for the New England area post comments from a Colts article than people from this area.

Also, I counted nine camera shots of Peyton last night during the game. That doesn't include post game ceremonies. I wasn't surprised, but I was surprised that they didn't show their parents at all.

Plan B : Blue Painters Tape (it's a lot faster)

This rivalry may not have the history of the previously mentioned matchups, but for the NFL, this is one of the best simply based on the talent both teams bring to the field. Unlike other professional sports, it's rare for the same NFL teams to stay competitive and make the playoffs year after year.

For example, the Cowboys and Redskins have long been a rivals, however this was the first year in a long time that the Redskins actually had a descent squad.

The Bears and Packers rivalry has one of the longest histories, but this season created an oddity as the Bears were awful, but managed to hand Green Bay 2 of their 3 total losses.

What I'm getting at, is that its one thing to have a rival, it's another thing to have two rival teams that are actually the best in the league.

I agree with you. I think the rivalry is great, especially over the past 5-7 years. Both examples you used are divisional rivals though. Over 50 plus years of history, playing twice a year, regardless.

I guess my point was that it is pretty amazing that we have such a rivalry with a team that we might see in the regular season and playoffs, but in the future, we might not play them at all? I know that we have them here again in the first season of the new Stadium, but after that, who knows what the NFL will do. If they were smart, they would schedule it every year, but it's possible they might not.

Also, the Sharpie was my plan B. I tried to use the painters tape at first, but it was a brighter blue than I was looking for. I had to be official son!
