Historic election, tv coverage
I am operating on no sleep today becuase I was up forever celebrating an exciting win for President-Elect Obama. Did I want him to win? Yes. Was I prepared for what I witnessed on TV last night? Not on a bet.
I have seen a few presidential election speeches. Of course in recent years it has been a guy groggily accepting the position after re-counts and a night of the media claiming the vote is "too close to call." To look out on a Chicago landscape and see wave upon wave of people waiting to see their next President. The cameras cut to Times Square and while it is usually a hub of people, the scene last night and early this morning resembled New Year's eve and I kept looking around for Dick Clark and Ryan Seacrest.
To say I have never seen anything like it is an understatment. Shots from around the world showed people cheering and screaming for Obama's win. One person welcomed back the American Dream to the global world. I saw people storming to the gates of the White House not unlike the big barricade scene in Les Miserable as they sing "Do you Hear the People Sing?" In my head I had strains of Evita when the people of Argentina shout "the voice of the people must not be denied!"
We can be so proud of this moment...everyone who voted and supported their candidates to the end. It was a moment to watch.
