Thanks to the upcoming referendum on Wishard’s new hospital, I’ve learned much more about this gem in our city.

Wishard created the first regional medical information system in the country, now a key national strategy for improving the quality and containing the costs of health care. Wishard’s “Dartmouth Atlas” rating, used by experts these days to rank the results of a health-care system compared to its cost, is at the top. Preventive care in neighborhood facilities has long been Wishard’s approach. And hospital operations have been managed to save money and grow revenues so that a new hospital can be built without new property taxes.

We will put a modern public hospital in the midst of Indianapolis’ growing life sciences corridor along 10th Street. This is the performance we long for in our public institutions and I will support it with enthusiasm on Election Day.
