Michael Jackson entered Ryan White’s life anonymously.

One day the Indiana teen with AIDS received a stereo. A note with a phone number was enclosed, said his mother, Jeanne Whiteginder. When Ryan called the number, Jackson answered. The two became fast friends.

“The guy has a really good heart,” Whiteginder said Friday from her Florida home.

Jackson had promised the boy an appearance in his next video. Although that did not happen, after Ryan’s death in 1990, Jackson filmed a video that featured photos of the boy.

The song? “Gone Too Soon.”

Auction Twenty-one items once owned by Michael Jackson sold at auction Friday for a total of $205,000. The auction had been planned weeks before the singer’s death, and the original estimate for the lot was $6,000. A crystal-studded shirt worn on his 1984 Victory tour went for $52,000.

BET tributes Sunday’s BET awards will be dedicated to Michael Jackson, a producer said Friday, and artists such as Beyonce, Wyclef Jean and Ne-Yo are scrambling to change their scheduled performances to honor him.
