H1N1 vaccination clinics in Indianapolis, Noblesville draw hundreds

H1N1 vaccination clinics in Indianapolis and north in Hamilton County drew large crowds this afternoon.

The Hamilton County Health Department had only planned to give 500 doses in four hours, but changed its plan when about 800 were in line as the clinic opened at 4 p.m. County officials found 300 more doses for the clinic at the county fairgrounds in Noblesville, spokesman Tony Benge said.

In Marion County, 1,200 people were in line when a clinic opened at 3 p.m. today.

“The Marion County Health Department H1N1 vaccine clinic at Lafayette Square Mall gave its first injection at 3:01 this afternoon,” said spokesman John T. Althardt in an e-mail. “The injectable vaccine was given to a 3-year-old Indianapolis girl whose grandmother arrived at 9:15 this morning to hold a place in line for her granddaughter.”

Marion County has more than 5,000 vaccinations available thorugh 7 p.m.

In Hamilton County, more clinics were set for the 4-H Grounds, 2003 E. Pleasant St., Noblesville:

>>Monday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

>>Nov. 16, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

>>Nov. 18, 4-8 p.m.

>>Nov. 21, noon-4 p.m.

>>Nov. 25, 4-8 p.m.

The priority groups are:

>>Pregnant women.

>>People age 6 months to 24 years.

>>People from age 25 to 64 with medical risks — such as asthma and diabetes — associated with a higher risk of flu complications.

>>Household and caregiver contacts of children younger than 6 months of age.

>>Healthcare and emergency medical personnel.

>>People who live with or provide care for infants younger than 6 months.
