Great Ideas Competition Finalists Announced!!!!!!!!!!!

Seven artists from around the state will vie for two $15,000 commissions

Indianapolis residents or visitors with great timing (THIS MEANS YOU) will have the opportunity to voice their opinions about which finalists should be commissioned to produce their Great Ideas works of public art on the streets of Indy. The "voting" will start at a very cool reception in the Artsgarden, on Dec. 6th, 2007 at 6pm. Free food, cash bar.

The finalists are the artist team of Artur Silva and Judith Levy, Jeff Martin, David Russick, Jessie Allison, Tom Torluemke and Timothy Gray.

The inaugural competition was held in 2005 and was designed to give artists living in the state of Indiana an opportunity to compete for a public art project commission in the state's capital, Indianapolis.

In 2005, a seven-person Selection Committee comprised of local art experts heard presentations by 10 finalists, considered public input, and recommended two projects - "Speak/Spoken" by Patrick Manning and "Charting Pogue's Run" by Sean Derry - which were commissioned and created in 2006.

The Great Ideas Competition was developed by the Arts Council of Indianapolis as part of its Public Art Indianapolis program and funded by the Indianapolis Cultural Development Commission.
